I couldn’t resist the insistence and my mom and I made aşure (a traditional Turkish dessert). Honestly, it turned out pretty good! 🥰
🌸 3 tablespoons of oatmeal – I ground it slightly with a hand blender (definitely not flour)
*Those who wish can use brown rice to adjust the consistency.
🌸 3.5 cups of water
🌸 1.5 cups of cooked chickpeas
🌸 1.5 cups of cooked beans
🌸 3 tablespoons of raisins
🌸 3 dried figs
🌸 3 tablespoons of dried mulberries
🌸 2 handfuls of hazelnuts
For garnish: cinnamon, dried coconut, currants
* The cup measurement is a 220 ml water glass.
I cooked the oatmeal with 1.5 cups of water in a pot for 2 minutes. Since I didn’t know the desired consistency, I added the water gradually, trying different amounts. You can add it all at once. Once the oatmeal was cooked and softened, I added the cooked chickpeas and dried beans. At that moment, I cut the raisins in half so they would add their flavor to the water. I added them to the pot. Then I blended the dried mulberries in a food processor.
I added them too. This is important because it distributes the sweet flavor homogeneously.
It simmered for a short time. Meanwhile, I chopped the dried figs into small pieces. I added them last because they darken the color of the aşure, but they also gave it its best flavor. We checked the taste at every stage. After simmering for another 1-2 minutes, we added the roasted hazelnuts and turned off the heat. I love hazelnuts in aşure. Don’t worry about it being watery; it solidifies when you put it in the bowl. I decorated the top and it was ready.
It was very quick and really delicious. As you know, my sweet tooth isn’t very high. This one has a very mild sweetness. Those who want can drizzle 1 teaspoon of honey or molasses on top when eating it.
Note: Please also consider the fruit portions when eating it. Just because it’s made with fruit doesn’t make it sugar-free. This recipe contains about 6 servings of fruit in total. Keep that in mind. 🙂
May it bring abundance and prosperity to us all, inshallah 🤗
