brokoli, yoğurt ve yağlı sos

Do you really need all those fancy ingredients like this nibs, that flour, or that powder to eat healthily? I want to start eating healthily, but I’m so confused about what to buy and where to begin!

You DON’T need any of those fancy ingredients to eat healthily. I’m listing the essentials of healthy eating. Go back to the basics.

* Eat what nature makes, not what humans make (here referring to factory-made packaged products).

* Eat plenty of vegetables, salads, and a reasonable amount of fruit (1-2 a day) – in short, consume color 🌶🥕🥦🍆🍑🍇🍉🍋🍊🍓

* Consume legumes, eggs, seasonal fish, and small amounts of meat – that will suffice. Nobody needs 500g steaks like in restaurants. Let’s not invite illness upon ourselves.

* Don’t neglect good fats. Olive oil, butter, olives, walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, just like my parents used to eat. No need for those oils, those hazelnuts, cashews, walnuts costing 480 TL per kilo. The simplest and best.

* No need for flours and grains, even if they’re healthy.

So, we need to go back to the basics, to the simplest things.

I ate these things when I was first diagnosed with diabetes 13 years ago, and when I changed my life. Back then, the things that are available now didn’t exist in Türkiye. For example, I heard the word granola for the first time on Instagram; I didn’t know it until then, and by the time I started this account, my 8-year recovery journey was already complete. I recovered without flours, nibs, or powders. The moment you eliminate packaged products, refined sugar, flour, bread, and grains, you’re already 10-0 ahead in healthy eating. So you don’t need to overthink it 😊

My current diet is super simple:

* One combined meal in the morning and afternoon: 2 eggs, a huge breakfast salad, 2-3 walnuts or similar (eggs sometimes alternated with gluten-free oatmeal, salad and vegetables are constant)

* A fruit snack

* In the evening: legume dish, lentil soup and salad, vegetable soup and salad, vegetables and yogurt, fish and salad. That’s how it goes. So where did all those recipes below come from 😊

For the first 8 years, I always ate like this and didn’t crave cake or pastries, but after getting married, I had a husband who loved and ate them, so I had to make healthier versions 😉 Having a healthy type of flour at home is enough. That’s for these little indulgences. Otherwise, you don’t need a thousand different things. In the end, even healthy cakes are just indulgences. This dish is one of my dinners. Steamed broccoli, garlic yogurt, and tomato sauce. Garlic yogurt and tomato sauce turn into a feast no matter what you put it on 😍 I hope I’ve been able to provide some information to ease the confusion on this topic. Big hugs to all of you.
