What does a gluten-free diet NOT mean?
As you can see in the image I’ve shared below, it doesn’t mean consuming products with such a long paragraph of content.
What a Gluten-Free Diet Is NOT:
Yes, it says ‘gluten-free’ on the label, but this is a warning for people with celiac disease. Also, this label may have been added for celiac patients, but celiac patients shouldn’t eat these products anyway. The biggest thing I see when working with you, in the questions and comments I get on Instagram, and while shopping, is the belief that products on the gluten-free or sugar-free shelves are healthy. The biggest problem approaching in the healthy eating world is labeling. Just because a product says ‘gluten-free’, ‘sugar-free’, ‘lactose-free’, ‘vegan’, or ‘ketogenic’ doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Coca-Cola is gluten-free, cigarettes are gluten-free. We could put a ‘gluten-free’ label on it if we wanted, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy, right?
Of course, some of them are healthy. But what is our criterion? The biggest criterion is this: if there’s a paragraph of content like this, we need to question that content. Let’s list some of the ingredients in this product: vegetable-based whipped cream, glucose syrup, multifilament starch, palm oil, E160, E420, E460, E472, E322… Do these things exist in nature? Do we know of an E472 tree? Or is E160 something that comes from the soil? No. Then all of these are chemicals, things produced in a laboratory. If you see an ingredient list like this, whether it says ‘gluten-free’ or ‘sugar-free’ on the label, we run away from it.
Note: I have no problem with the brand or brands. I’ve already closed the brand. My problem is that products filled with such unhealthy, meaningless ingredients are perceived as healthy. These things are eaten, illnesses increase, and then it takes months to recover 🙁
A true gluten-free diet means eating things that are naturally gluten-free. Let’s read the ingredients of the products in the gluten-free sections of supermarkets very carefully.
With love,
Sema
