Buying coconuts is so much fun. Grab one and shake it. The people at the market might give you a strange look, but just have fun! 🙂 The one with the most liquid inside is the freshest and best.
Coconuts are one of my favorite fruits. They contain very good fats, and thanks to these good fats, they keep you feeling full for a long time. They balance blood sugar. They’re high in fiber. Therefore, they’re a staple in our kitchen. Through trial and error, I found the easiest ways to crack and store them as follows. I wanted to write this down in case you need it too.
There are three dots on the top of a coconut. One of these dots is very soft, the other two are a little harder. When you insert a tool like a screwdriver into the soft one, it opens immediately. A corkscrew also works. We open this hole.
We drain the water inside through this hole and enjoy drinking it 😊 or we add it to our oatmeal porridge.

We drain the coconut and put it in the freezer for 2 hours.
We take it out of the freezer, hold it in our hand, and tap it twice horizontally with a hammer; it cracks open. There’s no need to throw it on the floor, hit it 50 times with the hammer, and attract the neighbors’ attention.

Using a sharp knife, we cut the cake or pastry into slices, lifting the edges to remove the pieces.

The portions spoil after 3-4 days. Therefore, keep only as much as you’ll eat in the refrigerator and freeze the rest. I make two bags as shown below. One bag stays in the freezer until it’s finished in 3-4 days.

Some people find coconuts expensive. A coconut costs around 6 lira. Sometimes it even drops to 4 lira. You can eat it as a snack every day for at least a week. You’re getting one of the best oils in the world. It’s the same price as a cup of coffee that’s consumed in 5 minutes or a slice of cake from a bakery. Isn’t it much more sensible to pay 6 lira for this amazing friend instead of paying 6 lira for unhealthy things? 😍
